Selby Snow Ball

Selby Snow Ball Outfit: "Stella" from Bossa Nova

Close Up Showing the Tuli S4 Skin in Cream/Frost

The Morning After: Reflecting Dreamily at the Selby Waffle Cabin

Last night was the Selby Snow Ball which meant an excuse to put on a gown and shake a tail feather. I quickly threw on Bossa Nova's "Stella" gown and the Tuli S4 cream/frost skin* and then helped (and by helped I mean "sat around and made catty comments") while Kit chose a dress and hair. Kit has, how should I put it, a little "problem" with hair. No, we're not talking about a personal grooming failure, rather she has paralysis by choice issues. When I picture Kit's inventory in my mind all I can think of is the government warehouse at the closing scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark. How she can find anything is beyond me, but she pulled out a perfect style, Tuber arrived, and off we went.

Now I don't consider myself a true Selbyite. I'm more of a hanger on, a groupie (minus the sexual favors thing) if you will, who loves coming to Selby events. How can I ever forget my ride on the sex hippo with Tuber at the Selby Halloween party? Why do I love Selby? Well, the witty repartee is a plus and everyone dresses to the nines. We covered llamas, zucchini, things one probably shouldn't lick, and a host of other issues while listening to the wonderful music provided by Sera. I met a charming RL writer wearing a dress from Ingenue and a good time was had by all. I still can't get over how much it felt like a winter formal--I didn't have a date and the room where we were dancing looked like a Holiday Inn ballroom. Ah, the memories! Thanks again to Joe and Sera for putting on another stellar event.

*The Tuli skin is available at Tuli's Le Zoo location, and was done especially for the opening of the sim. If you like it, hustle on over to pick it up. I love the frost detail! And ow that I look at myself with and without glasses, I'm reminded of Marilyn Monroe in "How to Marry a Millionaire"--doesn't she wear a gown like this in a scene?

A.O. is A.O.K.

Photos taken in the winter snow at 101 Delmations (click to make them larger!)

Now, I've never been mistaken for one of the cool kids. After all, I've been on SL since July and have never used an AO (animation override) which seems to be one of the necessary conditions for being cool. In part, this has been due to my perpetual teetering on the brink of poverty and the price of the really fancy AOs has always made me blanch. The free AOs I've seen have either been too overtly sexual or look like Kate Moss after a three day coke binge--would you stop fidgeting already and set your interval to a longer time span?

I learned today that ANIMAH is giving out five free standing poses and headed over to the store to do some reconnaissance. I quickly saw that ANIMAH sells really wonderful animations--I hopped on a pose ball and cycled through some of them and they were very flattering. (On a side note, I was in another store today and saw a ballerina pose, hopped on, clicked for the next pose and found myself doing "female masterbation [sic] 1" for shoppers--I mean, WTF?) I'm going to have to save my lindens to buy more ANIMAH animations but I had to settle for the five freebies. Now, being slightly technically savvy, I realized I had to load those animations into something to make them work. I looked up the Zhao II AO, teleported to get it, and then proceeded to add the poses to the hud. And, as you can see from the pictures, it worked!

For those keeping score: the hair is the "Nancy" in fire from Truth, the argyle sweater is from Argyle, the skin is Sin Skins Stratus "Clara Bow", and the jeans are the free/1L "Lucky" model from G.L.A.M.

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe

Rave Nation's "Merry Mistletoe" at Candy Cane Lane

Doll Keys at Rave Nation

Rave Nation currently has a Santa Lucky chair giving out cute (naughty cute, not cute cute, and honestly, what's better than naughty cute?) Christmas outfits, including the "Merry Mistletoe" number you see me in above. I've always said that if a girl needs to make her own fun during the holidays, she should carry her own mistletoe and this outfit has it very strategically located. What, you don't believe I've always said that and just made it up because it sounded good? Where's your Christmas spirit?

If you stop by, be sure to say "hi" to Jana Kowalski, who works hard as the greeter for Rave Nation. I poked around the store for a while and came across the cutest doll keys tucked away in a corner. For 150L you can turn yourself into the perfect holiday doll for someone special. The key spins and, when touched, says one of six phrases that you can write yourself. When I think back on past Christmases, I wish a certain doll I received had said "Don't leave me on the floor for the dog to chew me up." If I were your Christmas doll, what would you want me to say? Leave a comment!

Oh, the dirty Santa hat is free from Chicanery. I think the dirt gives it that authentic 19th century Victorian coal dust feel.

Me Fail English? That's Unpossible!

cash advance

Oh sure, Chartreuse's blog is genius level reading material and me? Well, I guess I need to break out the polysyllabic words.

Passing the Buck

Kit Maitland just tagged me, so I guess I have to play along or she will do horrible unspeakable things to me. Here are the rules, according to Kit:

1. Ya gotta post (on your own blog) 8 random facts about yourself.
2. Ya gotta tag 8 more people to post, so post their names at the end of your blog post!
3. Be sure to leave a comment in your taggee's blogs so they know they're tagged!!
4. Be sure to post these rules in your own post so your victims know what to do!!

Now, I'm flattered that Kit thinks I know eight people who blog. I'm also glad to get in on the ground floor of this however, since it will quickly turn into an Amway style pyramid where it will be impossible to find another sucker, errr...friend who blogs. I'm bending the rules and listing three people because I don't really have any friends, but will happily do the eight random facts.

Eight random facts about Dot Lane

1. I grew up in a town which has more cows than people.

2. I am taller in RL than I am in SL, although this was a purely an administrative oversight.

3. I would live on dark chocolate covered espresso beans given the chance.

4. I once thought Sleater-Kinney was going to be the greatest band of their generation. I love music, except for when I hate it. Nouvelle Vague's version of "Just Can't Get Enough" has been running through my head for days.

5. I can cook almost anything but I am a very picky eater when it comes to the textures of foods. I make great chili, roast chicken, and salad dressings but can't bake bread to save my life.

6. I just ate a sloppy joe.

7. I am currently reading The Rotters' Club, by Jonathan Coe.

8. I would sell Kit Maitland's soul to get the Cleveland Browns a Super Bowl victory.

Perfect 10s

Waiting to Skate--Should I Really Be Showing My Belly?

The Beautiful Rink at Chapeau tres Mignon

A Little Light Shines On Me

Now That's What I Call Skating!

My Lovely Figure in Silhouette

(click all photos to enlarge for full effect)

Chapeau tres Mignon had a skating party today to kick off the holiday season so I had to head over and try my axels, loops, and salchows. The rink is absolutely stunning as are the animations--one need only sit on a poseball briefly before making effortless spins around the rink. Also stunning is the "Bond Girl Ski Suit" which is a joint production of Battered Boudoir and Chapeau tres Mignon. I'd love to wear it, but with a name like "Dot Lane" I'm destined to be a secretary in the home office, not one of Bond's conquests at a ski resort in the Alps. Still, a girl can always dream. My festive holiday sweater and stockings are from CKS Design's Poe collection and the hat is from Crave.

Want to suggest a Bond girl name for yours truly? Leave a comment and let me know!

Gifts For All

Christmas at Candy Cane Lane Wearing Crave's "Nookie Cookie"

December means holidays for all and Christmas for most so I slipped into something festive and headed out into the cold to snap a few pictures. This very very sexy outfit is from Crave, which has several wintry looks guaranteed to make the object of your affection want to stuff your stocking (with gifts, you dirty minded people). Of course, I've been my usual pure-as-the-driven-snow self all year, so I expect lots of presents this year. Some wonderful designers have already obliged: WRONG is giving out a gift a day until Christmas, as is Ivalde. Insipired has a stocking hunt in their store and Tuli has a pile of gifts to celebrate their opening in Le Zoo (more on Le Zoo soon) I'm not sure how long Inspired and Tuli are giving presents so be sure to head over to each of these wonderful stores--no one wants to do their shopping on Christmas Eve anyway.

A girl can get spoiled with such generosity so tomorrow I'm making a RL donation for all of the wonderful people I've met through SL. Globe Santa is a deserving charity which puts smiles on the faces of children and I'm happy to do this for everyone who has made me smile.
